La Valle dei Pini - Trama anno 1988

In February 1988, after a near-fatal bout with toxemia, Erica Kane gave birth to a healthy baby girl, Bianca. Soon after, she married Travis.

Ellen and Ross's marriage, racked by his affair and rape of Natalie, ended in divorce, but Ellen wasn't about to sink into a depression. She remarried Mark Dalton. However, Julie was not as quick to accept Mark as her father. Having broken up for good with her ex-fiancee, Charlie Brent, Julie turned all her romantic attentions to Nico Kelly, who had been released from prison. At year's end, Julie and Nico married but their marriage was invalid because the small-town mayor who officiated at the simple ceremony was not authorized to perform marriages.

The romantic triangle of Cliff, Nina, and Matt grew ever more complicated when Nina became pregnant. Having slept with both Cliff and Matt, Nina realized that either man could be the father of her unborn child. Believing that she truly loved Matt, the pregnant Nina sadly divorced Cliff and left town with her new man.

Angie broke the sorrowful news to Cindy that she had AIDS. By then, Cindy was dating Stuart, who vowed to stand by the woman he loved. The rest of Pine Valley was not as accommodating. Cindy was harassed and nearly killed in a fire set by a vigilante group. Skye, who was now married to Tom Cudahy, raced into the burning fire and rescued Cindy, but having inhaled the noxious smoke, she passed out and fell into a long coma. During this time, Tom made the shocking discovery that his wife had been a member of the AIDS-fearing vigilantes, and it was she who arranged the fire, only to have second thoughts at the last moment.

With Skye in a coma, Tom turned to Barbara Montgomery for comfort and before long, romance blossomed between them and they married. Skye emerged from her coma and kidnaped Barbara at gun point. However, she gave up and was carted off to jail. When she slipped into a catatonic state, Skye was taken away to Oak Haven Sanitarium.

With that crisis behind him, Tom anticipated a happy life with Barbara. While Barbara was babysitting for Tom and Brooke's daughter, Laura, the little girl crossed the street, and was run down and killed instantly. The driver of the car was drunken Police Officer Josh Waleski.

Having served his time in prison for killing Sybil Thorne, Tom's wayward brother Sean showed up in Pine Valley determined to start his life over. He set his romantic sights on Cecily Davidson, whose bottomless trust fund made Sean salivate. Against the wishes of her meddling mother, Bitsy (who stubbornly insisted that a former convict would not make a suitable husband for her daughter) Cecily agreed to marry Sean. Unbeknownst to anyone, Bitsy wanted Sean all to herself.

Stuart and Cindy married in a beautifully tender ceremony in which they recited their own vows. Jeremy and Silver tried to resume their courtship, but Silver soon became obsessed with the idea that Jeremy was attracted to Natalie. Silver and Natalie got into a struggle and the pistol they were fighting over fired. Silver fell to the floor -- dead.

In a panic, Natalie hid Silver's corpse, and with Palmer's help, she dumped it in the pond on his estate. Palmer blackmailed Natalie into becoming his wife again. Weeks later, Silver's body surfaced, and Natalie was nearly charged with murder. Fortunately for her, the telephone answering machine in her apartment accidently recorded Natalie's encounter with Silver. The tape, stolen by Palmer, exonerated Natalie and the charges against her were dropped. Palmer was arrested for obstruction of justice and sentenced to prison.
Natalie finally married Jeremy, but their lives were complicated when an exotic mystery woman - Marissa Rampal - came to town. Marissa turned out to be a former flame whom Jeremy believed was dead. She shocked Jeremy by informing him that they had a son, David.

Angie and Jesse reconciled, but their happy time together was brief. Jesse, now a police officer, was gunned down by a bullet meant for a shady character, John Remington.

Dixie Cooney and her brother Will left Pigeon Hollow in search of Pete Cooney, their late mother's rich uncle. Pete turned out to be Palmer Cortlandt, who hired Dixie as a maid, not knowing that she was his niece.

Travis was too proud to admit to Erica that his financial empire was crumbling. To pay off his massive debts, Travis concocted a phony kidnapping plot in which his insurance company would pay 15 million dollars for his safe return. When the plot backfired, Steven Andrews, hellbent on revenge, snatched Bianca and demanded 15 million dollars all for himself. Travis was able to get Bianca back, but in the process, he lost his wife. Seeking a fresh start, Erica changed her name to "Sally" fled to Sea City where she met Steven Andrews, now going by the name "Dave Gillis."

Unaware that "Dave" was Travis's former partner in crime, Erica struck up a friendship with the seemingly kind gentleman. Before long, they were lovers. Dave begged Erica to run away with him. They might have fled the country if Travis hadn't raced to Sea City and stopped Andrews in his tracks. In a fight to the death, Andrews was shot and killed. Travis suffered a severe head injury. And Erica, stunned by this incredible turn of events, realized she still cared for Travis. Calling off the divorce, Erica hoped to make a new start with her husband. But by now, Travis had been mugged and suffered from amnesia.
